Quick Start
Get from installation to your first protected demo in under 5 minutes.
Install the extension
Install DemoShield from the Chrome Web Store. You'll see the shield icon appear in your browser toolbar.
Navigate to your SaaS app
Go to the SaaS application where you run demos. This can be any web app: Salesforce, HubSpot, Stripe, or your own product.
Open DemoShield and select an area
Click the DemoShield icon, then click 'Select Area'. Draw a rectangle around data you want to hide.
Let AI configure the rules
The AI assistant analyzes your selection and suggests how to obfuscate each element: blur, replace with fake data, or randomize numbers. Review and accept the suggestions.
Toggle demo mode
Click the toggle or press the keyboard shortcut to activate demo mode. All configured rules apply instantly. You're ready to present.
Setting Up Rules
Rules define how individual elements on a page are obfuscated. Each rule targets a specific element and applies one of three modes.
Obfuscation modes
Applies a Gaussian blur to the element, making it unreadable. Best for images, charts, and data you want completely hidden.
Swaps text content with realistic fake data. Names become different names, companies become fake companies. The page still looks real.
Generates random numbers within a similar range. Revenue figures, user counts, and metrics change to plausible but fictional values.
Creating rules manually
While the AI assistant handles most rule creation, you can also create rules manually:
- Open the DemoShield panel
- Click "Add Rule" to open the rule editor
- Use the element picker to click on a page element, or enter a CSS selector
- Choose the obfuscation mode (blur, replace, or randomize)
- For replace mode, enter the replacement text or let the AI suggest one
- Save the rule
Managing rules
All your rules are listed in the DemoShield panel. You can:
- Enable/disable individual rules without deleting them
- Edit a rule to change the obfuscation mode or replacement text
- Duplicate a rule to apply it to a similar element
- Delete rules you no longer need
- Organize rules by domain for easy management
Demo Mode
Demo mode is the main feature of DemoShield. When activated, all enabled rules apply to the current page and any page you navigate to within the same domain.
Activating demo mode
- Click the toggle switch in the DemoShield panel
- Or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+D (Cmd+Shift+D on Mac)
During a demo
- Navigate freely between pages — rules apply automatically
- New elements matching your rules are obfuscated as they load
- A subtle indicator in the extension icon shows demo mode is active
- Toggle off at any time to return to the real data view
Tip: Set up a keyboard shortcut to quickly toggle demo mode. This lets you switch seamlessly if you need to show real data during Q&A.
AI Chat Assistant
The built-in AI assistant (powered by Claude) helps you set up rules quickly. After selecting an area on the page, the AI analyzes the content and suggests appropriate obfuscation strategies.
What the AI can do
- Identify sensitive data types (names, emails, revenue, etc.)
- Suggest the best obfuscation mode for each element
- Generate realistic replacement data that fits the context
- Create multiple rules from a single selection
- Explain what each rule does and why it was suggested
Team Features
The Team plan enables collaborative rule management across your sales organization.
Shared rule libraries
When a team member creates and publishes a set of rules for a SaaS application, those rules become available to everyone on the team. This means:
- One person configures obfuscation for Salesforce — the entire team gets it
- New team members are demo-ready on day one
- Consistent demo experience across the organization
- Updates to shared rules propagate automatically
Team management
Team admins can manage members, view usage analytics, and control which rule libraries are published.
Keyboard Shortcuts
DemoShield supports keyboard shortcuts for quick access during demos.

Troubleshooting
Rules are not applying on page load
Some SaaS apps use dynamic rendering. Try waiting a few seconds after the page loads, or set a delay in the extension settings. DemoShield watches for DOM changes and will apply rules as elements appear.
The AI selection is not detecting all elements
Try drawing a larger selection area. The AI works best when it can see the full context of a dashboard widget or table. You can also manually add rules for specific elements using CSS selectors.
Replacement text doesn't look right
You can edit any replacement text in the rule editor. The AI generates contextually appropriate fakes, but you can customize them to match your specific demo narrative.
Extension conflicts
If you have other blur or content-modification extensions installed, they may conflict with DemoShield. Try disabling other extensions that modify page content.
